Realtors Offer 2021 Housing Forecast The Greater Boston Association of REAL- TORS® will hold its tenth annual Economic Expectations program featuring Dr. Mark Melnik, IREM’s Director of Economic & Public Policy Research and George Ratiu, Se- nior Economist for Realtor.com®. This year’s event will be offered as a webinar on Novem- ber 19 from 10 am to 12:30 pm. The speakers will forecast the 2021 housing market at the local, state, and national levels. Dr. Melnik specializes in demographic, socioeconomic, and labor market issues and leads a variety of economic and public policy research projects informing clients in gov- ernment, private industry, and the non-profit sectors. Mr. Ratiu explores trends in global economies, real estate markets, technology, consumer demographics, and investments. His professional experience spans corporate, consulting, association, and higher education environments in the United States and Eu- rope. Awards and Recognition MAR Names McCarthy Realtor of the Year The Massachusetts Association of Real- tors® (MAR) recently presented its Realtor of the Year Award to David McCarthy, broker and operating partner of Keller Williams Re- alty offices in the Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the South End neighborhoods of Boston, Brookline, Framingham, and Newton. MAR presents this annual award to ac- knowledge the volunteerism, civic engage- ment, and outstanding achievements of Realtors® on the local and national levels. McCarthy has had an active role in the as- sociation for more than 20 years, serving on the Greater Boston Association of Realtors Board of Directors for seven years and as the director for the Massachusetts Association of Realtors. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Re- altors (NAR). In 2018, McCarthy was inducted to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Hall of Fame for his years of sup- port of NAR’s Political Advocacy efforts as an RPAC Golden R Major Investor. Additionally, he served as MAR Direc- tor-At-Large and as a Massachusetts RPAC Trustee, while also serving as a member of the MAR Executive, Finance, Leadership Development, and Professional Standards Committees. Additionally, in 2015 McCarthy served as President of the Greater Boston As- sociation of Realtors. Trends Home Prices Rise in RI The median price of condominiums in Rhode Island rose 9% from September 2019 to September 2020, according to the Rhode Island Association of Realtors. The 2020 me- dian price was $264,950. At the same time, the median price of a single-family house hit a record of $339,900 and the median price of multi-unit houses hit an all-time high of $327,000, up 19% year over year. In a news release, Association President Shannon Buss said she can’t remember the last time the market has moved so fast this late in the year. The single-family median price, she said, rose by 15% from last Septem- ber’s price of $295,000.
