Johnson brings more than 25 years of pro-  fessional management experience to Barkan. Located on 13 scenic acres, the   property is located near shopping, dining,   and entertainment options, and easily acces-  sible via Rte. 128, I-93, and I-95 for conve-  nient commuting. The property is owned by   Taurus Investment Holdings and PhilMor   REI.  The Townhomes of Beverly consists of   204 units, with a mix of one, two, and three-  bedroom townhomes. Amenities include   a new clubhouse, swimming pool, beauti-  ful landscaping, and scenic courtyards. We look forward   to  exceeding  their  expectations  with  this   assignment.”  IREM Earns EPA Award  The Institute of Real Estate Management   (IREM) recently received the 2019 Energy   Star Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence   Award for energy efficiency programs that   feature Energy Star tools and resources. In a   press release, the Environmental Protection   Agency said the Energy Star Partner of the   Year—Sustained Excellence Award is the   highest honor among Energy Star Awards.   It is presented to organizations that have   already received Energy Star Partner of the   Year recognition for a minimum of two con-  secutive years, which IREM achieved last   year.   To earn the 2019 award, IREM advanced   the following initiatives:  • Created a new training certificate pro-  gram. This pilot training initiative targets   property managers in utility energy efficien-  cy programs with IREM education to facili-  tate better building energy efficiency out-  comes, as measured in Energy Star Portfolio   Manager.   •  Developed  new  medical  office  and   senior housing requirements for the IREM   Certified Sustainable Property (CSP) certifi-  cation program. CSP certification integrates   Energy Star tools and resources and recog-  nizes properties for resource efficiency.   •  Concluded  research  on  the  effect  of   green certifications on the financial perfor-  mance of multifamily communities. This   IREM-sponsored research concluded that   certifications like Energy Star can positively   impact the financial performance of these   properties.  • Expanded the IREM Energy Efficiency   Survey to gain insight on energy manage-  ment in the class B/C office sector. IREM   sought insights into energy management   practices and perceptions among managers   of class B/C real estate portfolios.   CAI Honors Industry Professionals for   Significant Contributions to the Community   Association Housing Model  Community Associations Institute (CAI)   announced in a press release the recipients   of the organization’s highest honors at its   annual awards ceremony, held on May 17 in   Orlando, Fla., in conjunction with the 2019   CAI Annual Conference and Exposition:   Community NOW. The honors salute indi-  viduals who have demonstrated exceptional   leadership to advance community associa-  tion living.  T. Peter Kristian, CMCA, LSM, PCAM,   was awarded the Distinguished Service   Award, CAI’s most prestigious recogni-  tion presented periodically to an individual   selected for long-standing, extraordinary   contributions to the Institute. Kristian has   been a strong supporter and volunteer with   CAI for decades, serving as a member of   CAI chapter leadership and legislative action   committee leadership since the late 1990s. He   served as chair of the Maryland Legislative   Action Committee in 1999 prior to moving   to South Carolina, where he has been active   in both the state chapter and state legislative   action committee.  John Hammersmith,  CMCA, AMS,   PCAM, CAI’s 2018 president, honored David   I. Caplan, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, with this   year’s President’s Award. Given solely at the   discretion of the immediate past president,   this award recognizes an individual who has   displayed exemplary service and commit-  ment to CAI and who has been instrumental   in helping the president achieve CAI’s goals.
